Let us tell you that the first nuclear test in Pokhran was carried out in May 1974 under the name of "Smiling Buddha". The second test was Pokhran II, a series of five tests of Indian-administered nuclear bombings at the Indian Army's Pokhran Test Range in May 1998. Pokhran II or Operation Shakti consisted of five tests, the first was a fusion weapon while the other four were fission explosives. On May 11, 1998, Operation Shakti or Pokhran II was launched with testing for two fission and one fusion bomb.

On May 13, 1998, two additional fission bombs were tested and the then Prime Minister of India was Atal Bihari Vajpayee who convened a press conference to declare the then India as a full-fledged nuclear state. The original name of the operation was 'Operation Shakti-98' and the five nuclear devices were classified as Shakti I to Shakti V. Now, the entire operation is known as Pokhran II. Pokhran I was tested in 1974.
