For Small Towns, Government Announces Metro Neo and MetroLite

The budget includes several announcements for Kochi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Nagpur, and Nashik metro rail lines, and Metro Lights and Metro Neo will be launched here soon.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram today announced in her Budget 2021-22 speech the introduction of Metro Light and Metro Neo for small towns. 

He further said that Indian Railways has prepared a national plan for 2030, which will determine the cost of logistics.

The biggest emphasis will be on promoting the metro network across the country and installing metro lights, metro neo.

The budget includes several announcements for Kochi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Nagpur, and Nashik metro rail lines, and Metro Lights and Metro Neo will be launched here soon. Nirmala Sitharaman said that an 11 km long line will be constructed in Kochi Metro Phase-2.

At the same time, a 100 km long line will be constructed under the Chennai Metro and the Bengaluru Metro project will also be expanded. 

Apart from this, the government will also help in Nagpur and Nashik metro projects.

The Neo-Metro was launched by the Union Ministry of Urban Development earlier last month. The project is designed for cities with a population of up to 20 lakh.

The cost of these three coach metros running on rubber tires is 40 percent less than the cost of building a traditional metro. Each of these coaches can carry 200 to 300 people.

Apart from this no large space is required for the station premises. It can run on road surfaces or on elevated corridors.
